The Golden State Warriors play in the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The team has had a checked history beginning in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors. They were part of the Basketball Association of America (BAA).  The team moved to San Francisco, in 1962, and became the San Francisco Warriors. In 1971, The name was changed to the Golden State Warriors, California’s state nickname. The Warriors are a member of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Western Conference Pacific Division.

Since the beginning the Warriors have competed for seven NBA championships, winning a total of 4, in 1947, 1956, 1975 and most recently in 2015. The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015. Golden States ranks fifth in most NBA championships only being superseded the Boston Celtics (17), Los Angeles Lakers (16), Chicago Bulls (6) and San Antonio Spurs (5). Two Warriors have been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP, Wilt Chamberlain (2) and Stephen Curry (2). The Warriors set the NBA record for most wins in a regular-season with 73 in 2016 which broke the 20-year-old NBA record (previously held by the Chicago Bulls).
